Roberto Martínez

He studied Mexican Folklore Dance at the Academia de la Danza Mexicana (INBA), as a dancer, he performed in the "Ballet Folklórico de México" and later as a teacher.

He founded the "Ballet Típico Mexicano" in Xochimilco where he not only taught Mexican folklore dance, but technical support, wardrobe, props and make up, having such experiencethat supported his large career in Mexican dance.

Teacher, Master and Creator of some generations of dancers, teachers and dance promoters, Roberto Martínez honors this Company with his name.

The Compañía de Danza Folklórica y Guelaguetza "Roberto Martínez" was born from the deepest love a group of young friends shares for Mexican Folklore, specially for culture and traditions from Oaxaca, with no other desire but offer this richness to all the people who want to see them. This Company has deeply submerged in national folklore and popular culture, respecting the traditions and customes, the costumes and even the coreographies and movements in each performance throughout the different and most representative regions of Mexico.

Guelaguetza

It means "gift" in Zapoteco, and it gives uis the purest sample of traditions from Oaxaca, where people are invited to all kind of celebrations and they attend with no empty hands but with food, beverages and traditional products from the region.

The Guelaguetza festivity clusters the representations of the seven regiones from Oaxaca: The Cost, The Ravine, The Mixteca, The Mountain Range, The High Papaloapan, The Isthmus and The Central Valleys, offering not only the dances and folklore, but the fruits, meals, crafts and traditions.
